Dell UltraSharp U2723QE or LG 27GP850?
I'm on the hunt for a new 27-inch monitor primarily for productivity (coding and document editing), but I also want something decent for occasional gaming. The Dell U2723QE seems great with its IPS Black panel for deeper blacks and supposedly better contrast, which I value for long hours of screen time. However, the LG 27GP850 is often praised for its gaming performance due to the faster response time and higher refresh rate. I'm torn between prioritizing image quality and gaming responsiveness. My budget is around $500-$600. Is the Dell's improved contrast worth sacrificing the LG's edge in gaming? I'm running an RTX 3070, so I can take advantage of the higher refresh rate, but I'm not a super competitive gamer.

If you're primarily focused on productivity and only game occasionally, the Dell U2723QE is the better choice. The IPS Black panel makes a noticeable difference in contrast and black levels, which is beneficial for reading and coding. While the LG has a faster refresh rate, the RTX 3070 will still provide a good gaming experience on the Dell at its native refresh rate. Think of it this way: you'll appreciate the better image quality of the Dell every day, while you'll only notice the LG's faster response time during gaming sessions. Unless you are a competitive gamer, the Dell should serve you better overall.

If your priority is coding and eye comfort, the Dell U2723QE is the better choice. While the LG 27GP850 boasts a faster response time, it's largely irrelevant for your use case. The Dell's ComfortView Plus is designed to reduce blue light emissions, crucial for extended screen time. The Dell still offers decent color accuracy for photo editing, likely sufficient for a hobbyist. You can always calibrate it for even better results. The LG is superior for gaming, but that seems secondary to your needs.
