MacBook Air M3 vs Lenovo Yoga 9i?

I need a new laptop for both work and personal use, and these two keep popping up in my search. I'm a software developer, so I need something that can handle coding, running virtual machines occasionally, and the usual office tasks. Battery life is important since I travel a lot, but I also want a nice display for watching movies and doing some light photo editing. The Yoga 9i's 2-in-1 form factor is appealing, but I'm not sure if it can match the M3 Air's performance and battery efficiency. My budget is around $1800.

The Yoga 9i usually has a brighter display and often includes a higher resolution, making it better for visual tasks. The MacBook Air M3 excels in battery life and its silent operation, but might be less powerful for sustained video editing. For coding, both are sufficient, but the MacBook's ecosystem might offer a smoother experience if you're already invested in Apple's software.

Docker runs far better on the Mac due to its Unix-based architecture. While the Lenovo has more RAM initially, macOS tends to manage memory more efficiently, mitigating that advantage. If battery life is key, the Air wins hands down. Consider the 15-inch Air for more screen real estate while retaining excellent portability. 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM should easily last 5 years, and will be more than sufficient for development and light video editing.

If your priority is battery life and silent operation under most loads, the M3 MacBook Air wins. The Yoga 9i offers more versatility with its 2-in-1 design and a potentially better screen for media consumption depending on the specific panel, but it won't match the Air's efficiency. For software development, both are capable, but the MacBook Air's macOS environment is often preferred by developers. Consider if you need the pen input and tablet mode; if not, the MacBook Air is likely the better choice for your described needs.
