Compare Honda CRV to Toyota RAV4?

I am trying to figure out which one is better for snowy conditions, as I drive up to the mountains frequently. I am also curious about long-term reliability; I tend to keep my cars for 10+ years. Resale value matters to me as well.

The RAV4 typically has a slight edge in fuel economy on the highway based on most owner reports. Reliability is a close call, but both are generally excellent. You might look at maintenance records for specific model years you are considering, as some years have had minor issues with one or the other. Check forums dedicated to each vehicle.

For snow, both are competent with AWD and winter tires, but the RAV4 has a slightly more aggressive AWD system in some trims that might give it an edge. Long-term, both are excellent, but Toyota's reputation is arguably a bit stronger for bulletproof reliability over very long periods. That said, CR-V is no slouch either. Resale will be similar, but historically, Toyota tends to hold value slightly better, though that can fluctuate with market conditions.
